AIMD's Democracy and Civil Society Division is concerned with promoting good governance and decreasing civilian need in developing countries. AIMD members have rigorously worked through regional and local channels to help the unemployed secure employment, give students access to vocational and technical traning, and provide disabled individuals with competitive jobs. AIMd members have partnered with corporations and governments around the world, including in Panama, Thailand, and Ecuador.

AIMD is currently expanding its membership in its Democracy and Civil Soceity Division to include associations that specialize in enhancing the incorporation of democratic norms and ideals in the governance structures of developing countries. Prospective members include associations with decades of experience consulting with governments in developing countries to bolster infrastructural transparency and open up new channels of communication between the people and their elected officials.
