AIMD members are educational and scientific organizations that operate in both the public and private spheres to enhance developing countries' access to technical information, consulting services, and consumer advocacy on food and agriculture issues.

AIMD's Food and Agriculture Division is boasts an impressive international presence. Members all maintain offices and headquarters in the developing world and have worked extensively to sponsor conferences and symposia with sister societies, disseminate information on food and agricultural systems to local firms, and advise governmental officials on legal policies. Additionally, members have partnered with the Untied States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Central and Eastern Europe to assist developing countries in their market and regulatory reforms.
